Saturday 12 October (in the presence of the artist, with French Sign Language interpretation)
2024 marks the centenary of the writer Goliarda Sapienza (1924–1996), whose work, long overlooked, is now recognised as one of the most significant in Italian literature.
The exhibition IUZZA reveals the investigation conducted by Italian photographer Francesca Todde (1981) into the life and work of Goliarda Sapienza, a resistance fighter, actress and writer. The project combines family archives with photographs taken in Sicily, on the Amalfi Coast and in Rome. IUZZA thus traces the journey of a photographer who, through the language of photography, seeks to reach a woman who weathered the turmoil of the century and who, throughout her life, wrestled with language to give voice to the experience of living.
The exhibition’s cultural programme is presented in partnership with Terres de Paroles, Normandie Images and Normandie Livre & Lecture.
