MAXIME GUEDALY

Focusing on the place of the human being within society and their direct interaction with their environment, Maxime Guedaly has been building a documentary photographic archive for the past ten years. A self-taught photographer with a background in engineering, he develops his projects based on the archives he has compiled. Selected, organized, and linked according to their intended purpose, these images find their place in public spaces and in exhibition venues open to all audiences.

The formal combination of various visual modes serves as a starting point for a reflection on the physical and political movements of socially engaged communities, whether they stem from a cultural background connected to the performing arts or the nonprofit sector.

Through video, the photographer establishes a dialogue between the rhythms of urban and human life, creating a shared vocabulary between two entities that have emerged from their inertia.

As the artist moves toward the fields of performance and collaborative art, their role becomes fluid, straddling participation and documentation. The question of how the work is received remains unchanged, but the artistic process is completely reexamined.

Maxime Guedaly was born in Toulouse in 1987; he is an engineer by training and a self-taught photographer. He trained in authorial projects at the ENSP in Arles in 2018.
