Les Ateliers Buissonniers – August 22, 23 & 24, 2020
A year ago, we presented Notre Jardin, a group exhibition that brought together several artists exploring the garden as a potential space of resistance against adversity. The exhibition was accompanied by another group show, L’Ecole buissonnière, presented at the Jardin des Plantes and tracing artistic residencies conducted in school, urban, and rural settings, focusing on the “question” of landscape. In both cases, the act—that of the artist, that of the student—was at the heart of the work. Because we wanted to continue this act with you, we have designed a series of artistic practice workshops for the summer of 2020, taking place within the Jardin des Plantes and beyond.
The Workshop
As someone well-versed in still life painting—a practice she regularly engages in for commissioned work—Anaïs Boileau invites participants to create a portrait of the Jardin des Plantes through a process of selection and composition, blending the plant elements that make up the garden with the tools used to maintain it. In addition to the actual photography (and its stages of selection, composition, and lighting), the three-day workshop includes a process of reworking the photographic print into a painting.
A graduate of the Lausanne School of Art, Anaïs Boileau balances commissioned projects with her personal work. Among her projects, the series *Plein Soleil* was featured in the *Black Mirror* exhibition in New York, organized by the Aperture Foundation, and received an award at the Hyères Festival of Fashion and Photography in 2016. In 2018, she exhibited at the Thessaloniki Photography Festival, and in 2019 in Braga, Portugal, at the Encontros da Imagen festival.
